Education

Lumen offers photography education at every level — from one-evening introductions to a two-year Certificate Program. Classes, workshops, residencies, and youth programs are taught by working artists from across the Pacific Northwest.

Certificate Program

Lumen's two-year Certificate Program is a structured, cohort-based path through the technical, formal, and contextual practice of photography.

The program admits a single cohort of 16 students each fall. Tuition assistance is available for every student who qualifies.

Classes

Six- to eight-week evening and weekend classes covering the foundations of photography in B&W and color, digital workflow, lighting, and history.

Workshops

One- to three-day intensives taught by visiting and resident faculty. Workshops are open to students at every level unless otherwise noted.

Summer Teen Workshops

Two-week intensives for students ages 13–18. No prior experience required. Scholarships available.

Scholarships & Tuition Assistance

Lumen awards $48,000 in need-based and merit scholarships each year across every level of the program. Applications open twice yearly.
